Blacktown Station is one of Western Sydney's busiest rail interchanges, where the T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland Line meet, with regular direct services toward the Sydney CBD. The station is also the terminus of the North-West T-way rapid bus route and has a large adjoining bus interchange, supplemented by a new bus layover facility for 11 buses on Sunnyholt Road that opened in August 2023. Road access is strong via the nearby M4 and M7 motorways, giving Blacktown broad connectivity across Western Sydney. Secondary schools: Blacktown Boys High School (established 1956) and Blacktown Girls High School (established 1959) are the main single-sex government secondary options, with Chifley College operating a multi-campus model across nearby suburbs. Primary schools: Blacktown West Public School and Blacktown South Public School are among the K–6 government primary schools serving the town centre area, alongside a range of other public and Catholic primary schools nearby. Westpoint Blacktown, one of the largest shopping centres in Western Sydney with more than 260 stores across four levels, anchors the suburb's retail and dining scene. For open space, Nurragingy Reserve in nearby Doonside — more than 60 hectares of bushland attracting over a million visitors a year, home to the Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens and an Aboriginal Heritage Garden — and the Blacktown Showground Precinct, with its walking loop, playgrounds and water play park, provide the main recreational options for residents.

Transport for NSW carried out rail infrastructure upgrade works at Blacktown Station, with community notifications issued for activities planned through to February 2025, alongside the new Sunnyholt Road bus layover facility that opened in 2023 to help address capacity at the main bus interchange. In August 2025 the NSW Government approved $10 million for Blacktown City Council to acquire land to extend Hambledon Road North from Guntawong Road to Schofields Road, improving access to the new Tallawong High School and connectivity for the growth areas north of the city centre.
